Have you struggled a lifetime with disordered eating and body issues? Do you ever just long to sit down with someone who understands all you have experienced, questioned, and fought to overcome? Oh, friend, let me graciously introduce you to author Laura Acuña and her newest book Still Becoming. Though I’ve read a fair amount of books on these subjects, I suspect I have never felt truly known and seen. Until now. Laura Acuña vulnerably shares her life with us, ultimately offering a better path to embracing the full and flourishing life God intended all along. And, it’s not at the end of a diet. It’s not a magic number on a scale. It is in true transformation from the inside out. Freedom. And that’s why the butterfly on the cover is such a perfect visual for Laura’s story. And perhaps yours and mine as well. Fill yourself with these thirty-one days of stories of inspiration and encouragement. And watch who you become.

Lucinda Secrest McDowell
Award-winning author of Soul Strong and Life-Giving Choices

I am so excited for this book! Wow and wow! As a leader in the fashion industry, I see the damage women inflict on themselves by dieting and obsessing over the number on the scales. By giving up dieting for thirty-one days, a woman will now have a whole new outlook on her body because she will have done a deep dive into the reasons she continues on this roller coaster we call ‘dieting.’ This book is a must-read for most of the female population. I can’t WAIT to give it to the women in my life.

Relatable and Generous

Planning a women’s retreat with Laura Acuña is a blessing that will stay with me for years to come. Aside from her topic that was perfect for our group and her generosity in planning our retreat, it was the fellowship that we shared that made the greatest impact. Laura’s love for the Lord is evident in all that she says and does. Her knowledge of scripture showed me how passionate she is about her calling and her warm, loving personality made me want to be her friend. Her story is one that every woman can relate to. All of Laura’s qualities translated into an extraordinary event that made every woman feel loved.

An Excerpt From still Becoming

I was tired. I was weary. I was sick of it. I told God, “Lord, I would rather stay at the weight I am today than to keep losing and gaining it all back again.” I meant every word and syllable. It broke my heart to pray that prayer, but I was done. I’d been dieting for almost five decades. For the life of me, I couldn’t make my body cooperate with the scores and scores of diets I had attempted over all those long years. It went like this: I lost the weight. I gained it back. Shame piled on. Lose the weight. Gain, Shame. Repeat. Sound familiar? What if I told you there’s a better way?
